About

We are a well-established New Zealand owned and operated underground utility surveying company , providing a high quality service at a competitive price to commercial and residential clients across greater Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Waikato, Northland, and Coromandel.

We locate underground utilities and unknown objects to help you with the information you need prior to excavation and project planning. Our specialist technicians have decades of experience within the underground civil contracting field, where it is a priority to know the underground position of all network services prior to the commencement of any excavation.

We use the latest technology, including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) pipe and cable locating. This gives us the best chance to identify metallic and non-metallic underground services and objects such as, power, communications, gas, water, drainage, fuel tanks, manhole covers, steel reinforcements.

In addition to marking up underground utilities and services, our in-house GIS team can produce high quality, to scale drawings, Drone and GPS surveying for data collection of positions, depth indications to aid any project planning, delivered using AutoCAD in format types DWG and PDF.

Buried utilities and services are the veins and lifeblood of the community and any disruption through damage to power, water, gas or communications supply can severely impact homes and could paralyse businesses. Furthermore, it could cost thousands of dollars to reinstate supply.  Any strike to a buried utility can also carry a serious health and safety risk too – hitting a buried power or gas line could potentially be disastrous and expensive to fix.

At Subsurface Detection Ltd we offer a service using the most up to date equipment available, giving us the highest probability of locating any hidden underground services and unknowns and which can help protect you, the public, your employees and your assets from these levels of risk.

One of our major principles is to keep up to date with the latest technology and actively perform on-going in-house training for all staff to ensure that we are working at the highest possible industry levels. Our training gives us the specialist edge when it comes to GPR and EMI site surveys which includes aligning with internationally accepted underground utility detection technologies, standards and procedures.

We can, if required, co-ordinate the use of CCTV drain inspections and/or hydro excavation equipment for potholing confirmation of services or the excavation of targets where machine digging is not suitable. We are also very comfortable working alongside your existing site contractors to assist your project work from start up to competition.
